Adi Wasikesha

Founder, developer and editor of Cold Day Calculator

Hi, I'm Adi Wasikesha. I build and run Cold Day Calculator. I write the code for every calculator on this site myself, and I write or review every guide before it is published.

Why I built this site

Most snow day predictors online give you a percentage without explaining where it comes from. I wanted tools that show their working: which inputs they use, how each one is weighted, and where the formula comes from. So each calculator page explains which inputs it uses, how the result is worked out, and what the tool cannot know.

How the tools and guides are made

  • Weather formulas (wind chill, heat index, snow-to-liquid ratios) follow the published methods of the US National Weather Service and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
  • Live forecasts on US city pages come from the free National Weather Service API (api.weather.gov); Canadian city pages use Open-Meteo forecast data.
  • School closure factors are based on what districts publicly say they consider — snowfall, road conditions, temperature/wind chill and bus safety.
  • Results are always labelled as estimates. The official decision always comes from the school district or authority.
